| We are all born with a song to sing.
You were designed and created by God for a special purpose. In your heart you
know what that song and that purpose are.
When you were little, you knew your song. No one had told you that you
should or shouldn't sing the song. It just came from your soul
and you sang it before you had learned the shoulds and shouldnt's of
life. Then one day someone told you that couldn't or shouldn't sing your
song - that
it was silly or unnecessary or inappropriate - that a different song
would be more pleasing to those who loved you and they wanted you to sing
their songs instead of your song.
So you began to doubt the validity of the song God gave you when you were born.
You quit singing your own song and tried to find a niche in the universe by
singing songs that others wanted you to sing.
Your spirit cried when you forgot your own song but the approval of others
was more important to you than your own joy and peace and satisfaction.
Though its harmony was stifled, its volume was discouraged, its reason for
existing was questioned, and its style was belittled till barely a note remained
the song still struggled to emerge. A restlessness stirred in your spirit while
you fought to find the courage to sing your song in the manner in which it
was intended to be sung.
You knew when you were singing off-key, when you had gone down the wrong road,
had made a bad career choice or had done something you believed was morally
wrong. You looked for someone who was able to help you get back on-key, help
you over the hurdles, someone who believed in you. If you were lucky, you found
someone. If you were unable to find someone, you struggled to find the strength
within yourself to sing again the song for which you were born.
Perhaps you think your song is not grand and glorious. It may be the workday
song of a person who scrubs and polishes the floors and bathrooms in the work
place. Perhaps it is the song of the person who serves a beautifully presented
meal in an elegant restaurant, or one not so elegant. But if that is your song,
you will be comfortable with it and find joy in what you do.
What if you must sing a song not of your own choosing, such as caring for a
terminally ill family member, or being blessed with a disabled child, or losing
someone you love? Then what song are you able to sing, if indeed, you are able
to sing at all? Can you find another song that brings you satisfaction of doing
what needs to be done?
If it is true that all people are born with a special song to sing, don't
you wonder what song Osama and Saddam and Adolph were born to sing and
why they chose to sing the wrong songs? Do you think of how they might
have bettered the world if they had used their power and money for society's
good instead of evil?
You may be one of the most gifted people in the world, a person who sings a
song which the world ridicules. Perhaps by listening to the melody in your
own soul and ignoring the chords of the masses, you will make positive contributions
to society that change the world forever.
Don't be afraid to sing your song. Your heart already knows the words
and your spirit carries the tune.
